“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts;  And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.” -Psalms 139:23-24 NASB- Recently, I found this quote on Pinterest; “Many people would be scared if they saw in the mirror, not their faces…but their character.” How powerful! As a Christian, it is my desire to be a woman who pleases Christ in every aspect of my life. Hence, I couldn’t help but take the opportunity after reading the quote to prayerfully check myself, my character. Am I a woman of integrity, am I woman who keeps my word? Am I a taker or a giver, a listener or gossiper? Do I complain or take action? I really took some time meditating and prayerfully thought of areas in my life that can certainly use improvement. As a car needs an oil change periodically, every so often, we ought to check ourselves and inquire of our true character. Perhaps some of the questions you may ask yourself are, “How can I be a better me, friend, sister, brother, employee, significant other, teacher, parent, daughter, son…?”  Ask yourself, are you a person of integrity, is your yes, YES and your no NO, without any internal reservations or doubt? Are you a listener who is present and empathetic toward others OR are you a gossiper? What about whining or complaining? Do you easily find fault without finding a solution or taking appropriate action? Are you a giver or taker? When was the last time you volunteered? Do you genuinely give back to your community or church, friends, family, neighbors, school, etc without expecting anything in return? These are only questions to ask YOURSELF. In this journey of life, we are ALL a WORK IN PROGRESS. May this New Year; this NEW BEGINNING serve as an opportunity for YOU to earnestly and prayerfully check YOURSELF. TAKE ACTION: Personally reflect and write down (in a journal or notebook) some areas or habits in your life needing improvement. What are small steps or changes you can prayerfully surrender daily to help you change those habits? POINTS TO REMEMBER: 1. CHANGE starts with ACTION 2. Be patient with yourself. Change does not always happen overnight 3. Be CONSISTENT and trust the PROCESS.
