“The world needs dreamers and the world need doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do.” –Sarah Ban Breathnach-
This past weekend I attended a Women’s Legislative Briefing. There were of course numerous commissioners, senators, U.S. House of Representatives, Delegates, professionals, organizations and community members. We were all there for a common purpose; to strengthen our community. I felt so proud and united with a group of individuals committed and eager to make a powerful and positive impact in our community.
One of the panelists, Congressman John Delaney, quoted Sarah Ban Breathnach, “The world needs dreamers and the world need doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do.” He inquired, “What is your mission?” And he charged us to Do! His question and charge reminded me of my personal mission statement; to strengthen my community and affirm value in people’s lives as well as RIM’s mission statement, to bring hope, healing and empowerment to undiscovered young girls and women. Having a personal mission statement is crucial to determining your destination. When using a GPS, you need to first insert the address in order to be directed to your destination. Likewise, a personal mission statement is the GPS that will guide you to your life’s goal. You may at times obtain traffic along the way, severe weather conditions, a few accidents, re-routes, U-turns, and may even need to change the address, accelerate or decelerate; nevertheless, with much diligence, determination and certainly consistent movements, you will courageously arrive to your destination; face to face with the realization of your dreams.
This week, I join Congressman Delaney and ask you, what is your mission? What are you doing to get involved in your community? What are you doing to accomplish your dreams and aspirations?
TAKE ACTION: Write out your personal mission statement. Write out steps to help you accomplish your goals.
POINTS TO REMEMBER:
1. Dreams without actions are only dreams.
2. Dreams are only real when you WAKE UP and take action
3. Be Persistent & Consistent
