Recently I attended a funeral and was asked to assist in writing the Eulogy. As I listened and prepared the eulogy, I couldn’t help but reflect upon my life. If my last day came suddenly, what legacy would I leave behind? What would my eulogy read? What I’m I contributing in this world, on a smaller scale to my community, church family, neighbors, friends, university, employer, etc? What about my dreams and aspirations, will they be buried with me? These questions led me to deeply think about my PRESENCE NOW. The thought of dying without giving back to this world or accomplish the purpose for which I was created, was frightening.
Your presence is a powerful contribution. In Exodus 33:15 Moses said to God, “If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” Moses was more concerned with having God’s presence go with them to the Promised Land than he was about receiving tangible blessings. I love the story of Deborah in Judges 4:8. She was a prophetess, wife and Israel’s judge. Barak who was the commander of the army refused to go into battle without Deborah’s presence. In fact he said, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, then I will not go.” Being present now is about playing an active role in your family and community.
What does your presence mean to your community? Are you giving back to this world, sharing hope, healing and empowerment in your own way? What about your dreams and aspirations, will they be buried with you or would you have accomplished them? I heard this lyric from a song (YouTube video below), “What you share with the world is what it keeps of you.”
TAKE ACTION: What can you do this week to give back to your community? Perhaps you can volunteer at a shelter, church, help with chores, etc. I challenge you to make time THIS MONTH and give back to your community.
POINTS TO REMEMBER:
1. Change starts with action
2. Be Consistent
