What Does Love Mean?
LOVE, a word that is too often, easily used to describe one’s feeling concerning people, food, an enjoyable activity, or anything deemed pleasurable. As valentine’s day (day of love) is being celebrated, I often take a moment and truly reflect on the meaning of love. What is love and how have I demonstrated love? It’s in our human nature to desire love & to be loved. We all want to receive love but how do we bestow love? It’s easy to expect and give love to those dearest and closest to us. However, to bestow love to those who’ve harmed us or to complete strangers is not always comfortable or easy. I’ve had to learn time and time again, to love even when it’s not reciprocated or easy (one of the hardest lessons). Love is an action! Romans 5:8 says it best, “God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Key words are, still sinners & died…What do you believe this text means to you regarding how you love others? (No, I’m not saying you have to give up your life but maybe give up some of your time, talents, etc?)…..:)
Secondly, I personally experience love and satisfaction in life most when I’m serving others. I came across this quote by Lynne Namka, “Love in action is service to the world.” How powerful! As valentine’s day is being celebrated whether or not you participate in the festivities, I hope you will think about how you love others and consider extending that love to servicing your community in whichever capacity that is personal and unique to you. However you chose to demonstrate your love, do so by investing and servicing others not just one day but consistently.
Happy Love through Service Day! 🙂
